Precinct 1

Two signs. Hugh Jass wonders if the Jar Jar goofy style of Subi’s sign is deliberate. “Me so apologises”,  to soften the reality that Rokeby Rd improvements are just rearranging the dickheads on the Titanic?precinct1
And Bento wonders how many cafes does it take to make a precinct. (Bayswater). And comes up with the answer that one cafe doesn’t cut it precinct wise. It’s not even single origin! Was it a Jesters precinct previously? And Colin Barnett has given the green lie to the airport line through Baysie, so I guess it will be the broken promise precinct too. But at least Baysie has a possible future. Which is more than you can say for Subiaco.precinct2

Vulgar David

Bento (for it is he) asks: “Is Melbourne turning into Perth? Can there be any clearer proof that we’re in a Po-Vi era?”
I ask: “Why doesn’t this happen in Claremont?”
The Grauniad has the scoop: ‘Vulgar’ four-metre concrete copy of 16th century sculpture in front yard of private home in Melbourne draws complaints – and some encouragement. 7168

The Stench of Eureka

Stu, exiled from our state of post vibrancy, has landed in Ballarat, where the stench of Stockade karaoke pre-pre-vibrancy reeks from every brick orifice. A lesson for Fremantle here. It takes two to facade. A Miniorb for Gen Y. One standard corrugated for Teh Unforgiven. True story. To BSWAM and the many out of town worsters. Umm… Ballarat was the site of the Eureka Stockade. Hard to know how to put it in perspective of anywhere else. But. OK, so a bunch of racist miners take out their extremely legitimate grievances against colonial mining licence restrictions whilst reserving the right to murder Chinesers. It’s taxation without representation without the option of bulk tea wasting alright? This takes the form of a pissweak rebellion quickly quelled, wherefore the aforementioned right to murder Chinesers with impunity is sullenly taken up as a consolation prize and a quite attractive flag is then subsequently used by unions with only a slightly less overt Chinese labour stance, ruining it for ever for possible later national flag considerations some decades on… Ok.

Soooooo… then…Peter Laylor, the Prince of this legitimately anti establishment but uncool pro Chineser murdering, was subsequently honoured for his part in this total fuck-up. Only to have his verandah eternally shaded, and his front bar soiled with renditions of Khe Sahn, and Radar Love. No doubt Stockade Chow Mein is available around the corner. So. Any questions? balla1balla2

Mystery art

The usual redback for the person who can illuminate us about this, which I think was on Newcastle Street, near the Hatch building. I don’t know much about public art, but I know it’s no Der Rufer

Re-register

I love this Baysie house. It’s near the fish and chip and tattoo precincts btw. I find it heartwarming that the owner has made top dressing the council’s verge more of a priority than attaching the verandah posts to the ground! Is there even a front door? I would make seasoning my crepe pans the next big priority job. And the mega Palm. In this context I like it. Marvellous in almost every respect. May that top dressed council lawn be forever registered.  By Bento.

Outrage Sunday 205 sweat chilli sauce

Prawn crakers, chicen noodles, and sweat chilli sauce: on the menu at hot new small bar Liam’s Shreddings now! IMG_1048 4
But no sauce at Fire & Ice anymore. Just a mousetrap, Astroturf, and half an oyster shell. The humanity of the disappearing vibrancy. IMG_1024 2 IMG_1025 2
I found this enraging. Snuff, can you please point me to be the blog that shames people who can’t even get the greengrocers’ apostrophe the right way up? IMG_1047
This was not enraging at all. It was a Bennodiction.IMG_1042 3

beast sex

Phwwwoooooaaaaaarr! TWOPers know the dugong intimacy in Timmy Winton’s books can get a bit skittish – but dinosaur erotica?
“Azog is an underappreciated cavewoman in her tribe.
“The cavemen treat her like a piece a (sic) meat.
“They disrespect her at every turn and never listen to anything she says
“Azog cannot change this unless she proves herself as a hunter.
“When she goes out in search of fresh meat, she discovers a clutch of baby velociraptors and decides to kill them and triumphantly bring them back to her tribe.
“That is, until their father shows up and blocks Azog’s way out of the cave.
“Azog must use all of her womanly wiles to get out of the cave, which includes doing things she had never dreamed of.”
The books are written by Texan university students. The above blurb is for In The Velociraptor’s Nest: other titles include Ravished by the Triceratops, and Taken by the Pterodactyl. My book broker said she was unfamiliar with the genre. ravagedbytheraptorstriceratopsvelociraptor

Make it out to Spruut

Checking out Tim Winton’s signed copies. Is Tim’s signature a…C&B? Perth Style I guess? Jennifer Byrne never mentioned it, although I’m sure he signed her copy. Apparently he can sign 16 a minute. If you want to see some real Winton hating, the Telegraph (UK) commenters have not taken to him and his sore wrist.siggy
A closeup might make it clearer. Phwoar! siggy2

The Hidden

Illusiver noted this public art hidden behind Melville Council. If I recall the piece was part of Fremantle Sculpture by The Sea, an altogether more positively scaled event compared to the rather lopsided Cottesloe. But why is this hidden? Or has it become the exclusive privilege of some Melville Council Czar? Like a stolen Kandinsky, to be gazed at over the rim of a glass of sipped 24 year old Chivas. Is its real value residing in its inadmissibility to the common scum of Melville? Well I hope so. Or is there just nowhere else to put it?mel1mel2
