Justice Once

More from Hotblackdesiato. We’ve had a house dauber before Hottie. He’s probably right about the death of justice. It has the feeling of a letter to the editor to the West. The house is great. It reminds me a little of KGB Headquarters. I just wish you had a shot of the car! I remember the car parked in Freo. Someone may have a pic. He’ll probably supply one when he hears about this post.

Hotblackdesiato says…

This fellow didn’t get an outcome he wanted in the courts so then drove around with a coffin on the roof of his very tatty old falcon station wagon with writing down the side proclaiming the death of justice in WA. He also did it to his house, which is now daubed in all manner of diatribe. The house would have been a good Worst even if he hadn’t really put a seal on it! Its on the corner of Moran Crt and Beard St, Stevie Wonder couldn’t miss it…

Done your hammy

I will get back to Nettie’s visit to Mundaring Sculpture Park very soon, as it seemed that the first post wasn’t worst enough for youse all, (!) and there is another piece she sent that I’m sure would be worthy. However new guest Hotlblackdesiato has sent in a submission from Hamilton Hill, and I’m very keen to get more in from South of the river. The power station in the second pic has a very strong TWOP connection. This is the setting for most of the action for The Day of The Panther, where John Stanton and Jason Blade practiced tax exempting kung fu in the mid 1980’s. It is also the location where I dragged heavy lights and ballasts up and down iron ladders for a week as a Best Boy, generally having an excellent time. Hotblack’s photos are rather too good actually. It’s as if he’s trying not to show the worst side.

Hotblackdesiato says…

Manning Park in Hamilton Hill, the actual park isn’t too bad – It is when you walk up from the rather rusty earth moving equipment with very flat tyres and go up the path at the back. During the 80’s as some sort of “employ itinerant youth” project they have made 3 quite disparate lookouts that just stun in the appalling design and woeful construction. The rather odd one closest to the sea is the best, with views over the dilipdated power station, toxic drum processing plant and the latest attempt to generate extremely expensive land from an old rubbish tip…

Tourist Trapped

Nettie spent some time at the Mundaring Sculpture Park, and I’m glad she did. Several great subjects for TWOP, which I will show in separate posts. She says that there used to be more items, but vandals (critics?) have taken their toll. The fact that these are a little bit sinister makes me like them a lot better. Exactly where is this Nettie, in case there are some more critics who want to take in the show?

House of the Lesbian Mermaid

Now this house would make a great TWOP headquarters. I’ve taken so many photos lately, I can’t remember exactly where this is. Joondanna, maybe. It probably shouldn’t be in The Worst of Perth, as it really is rather splendid, even though, or perhaps because it has a certain home made feel about it. It’s a little hard to say what this pair is up to. I can tell you’re leaning closer to your screens, but yes it is possibly some mermaid on human lesbian action. Or something. If there’s a mermaid humping a woman’s leg somewhere in the city, The Worst of Perth will find it. Move back from the screen a little. You’ll hurt your eyes.

The Mud Men of Mt Lawley

I feel I’m going to have to do something for The Uniting Church. Every time the TWOP Camry comes to a screeching halt outside some religious faux pas, it often turns out to be the responsibility of The Uniting Church. But I have only received the most pleasant and amusing responses from those involved, including that from the priest of The Church of the Crocodile, who emailed me that they did an excellent funeral service if I ever found myself in need. But what can I do guys when I see something like this? Sure it was 1967, but… We saw in Belmont how sinking into manure is not really successful as a motif. Perhaps if the hand was on the arse? No? This is Elimatta old people’s home. Yes that is Edith Cowan in the background. For Tomthrett, the fine print says Architects Hans Bollig and Geoffrey brown.

Son of Fed Square

In one of the most popular posts of TWOP, there was much debate on how bad Melbourne’s Fed Square was in comparison with Perth’s even more horrible Cultural Centre. Here’s a nice picture of the TWOP logo in enemy territory. I claimed that Fed Square was incredibly Perth, and is exactly the sort of “high tech” nonsense that would get built in Perth. Not surprisingly a shit version of Fed Square is now under construction next to the Entertainment Centre according to the artists impression.

Ginger Eros Hair

Some may remember Belmont’s fabulous Anysex Hair, one of my favourite Worst submissions. If your hair is not sexed up enough, try Eros for Hair in Midland’s most dismal Centrepoint Shopping Centre. Please note however, if you are a Ginger, you have your own specialised hair compound a little further down the road. Midland must have a large ‘rang- a population.

Gilding The Willy

Haven’t had a car up for a while. Here are two. One decorated professionally and badly. One amateurishly and badly. The fact that someone paid good money for that blade design, gives the points to the amateur. Pig Drifter wins by a mile. Bedford and Bentley.

Raunchy Skumpys ‘Ling Style

The other day, Rottobloggos David Cohen was arguing that The ‘Ling (Stirling Arms) on James street Guildford was far more worthy than the Rangeview for TWOP. I quote

“The bouncers stand outside and throw people in. The squat building is a cross between a D-Day German pillbox and a Romanian asylum. The eastern outside wall is for guests’ urinating pleasure – very Parisian. Between performances the skimpies will quickly whip up oleaginous fush and chups, washed down with a piping hot All Black…”

I decided to check it out, and it turns out we were both there taking pics at about the same time. I thought he was a little harsh on the building description, and I think the Rangeview (The Ranga?) looked worse, but it certainly wasn’t the most pleasant looking place. I used one of each of our pics.

Thursday and Friday are your days to finally catch a skimpy Tom, Raunchy Skimpys at that. (Although I still find it difficult to believe you haven’t encountered one of these poor creatures before.) There are a couple of lovely buildings just up from the Ling that I know you will love too. Don’t go on the 7th of Feb, though. Not only will you miss the skumpys, but you will encounter Dennis Marsh.

Dennis Marsh is a Kiwi country singer. In 1970, he was one of five to be selected, by a panel of judges, from singers all over NZ, to form part of a group called ‘Living Bread’ to represent the NZ Youth for Christ in Sydney, Phillipines and Singapore. He is also a country boy at heart unfortunately.

End of the road for Travelling Wilburys

Can this be the tipping point of the city’s culture? The moment when a Perth music fan said, “Enough! I’m as crap as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Casting their Travelling Wilburys Volume 1&2 with bonus DVD out of the window of their new lime green ute on Great Eastern Highway, they reverse over it a number of times and perform one more burnout on the way to see The Royal Philharmonic at The Concert Hall.
