Labor swings behind Worst of Perth

Dominic Rose Federal Labor Candidate for O’Connor took time out from heavy campaigning to throw his support behind The Worst of Perth. The canny Geraldton boy possibly thought an “anti big smoke” sentiment might play well in O’Connor, where he is in a David and Goliath battle against sitting windbag Wilson Tuckey.

The Worst of Perth wrote to congratulate Mr Rose on his interview in the Australian newspaper. Read on…

couldn’t say with all honesty that we’re fans of 20 year
olds being involved in anything at all, but we absolutely
loved the interview with the OZ the other day. Superb. We
would love to see a debate with that cretinous windbag
Tuckey. Wish we could help you with a few votes, as we all
really hate that moronic f**ker Tuckey, but unfortunately
Worst of Perth headquarters is in Stephen Smith’s already
safe seat.
If you get to debate The Old Limp biscuit, let us know.

Worst Architecture. Guest Post from Master Splinter

For years I’ve lived in hope that the majestic stallions from El Caballo Blanco would come galloping into the old Midland Brick display centre (cnr Scarborough Beach Rd & London St North Perth).It’s begging for it. Would be a shame to see this go, I mean it should remain as a memorial to mighty Midland Brick and what it’s done for Perth, it’s really shaped our city!

Is there really another option to building with brick in Perth? Obviously not…..Ed, maybe you have some ideas for this site. Ok, the cocos palms have to go, but I could see a string of woodfired pizza ovens in those arches (drive-in style!).

Putting aside your well known stallion fantasies for a moment, can I say Ai Ya! Well posted Splinter! To me it looks more like one of those giant sewer interchanges, or one of the Crusader castles after being sacked by Saladin. My suggestion for the site, is to let me live there -ed.

Here is the second part of Deckard Bishop’s submission, showing another building at Edith Cowan’s Mt Lawley campus. I haven’t put it up before, because I couldn’t decide: Is this good or bad?

If the function of graphic design is to get things noticed, then this is a crime of blandness.
Is the proprietor’s lack of conviction regarding the promote-worthiness of their venture also echoed in the naming?
Not “THE Inter City Motel” nor even the grammatically correct, “An Inter City Motel” but the Strine-perfect “A Inter City Motel”.

I’ll leave the crimes of the cocos palms and the po-mo architecture as alone as the tourists have left the grounds of “A Inter City Motel”. Ay?

And the plastic table, so you don’t see too much of the pool is nice too – ed. This is also  very close to the location of Perth’s worst street as nominated by Alex. You are not helping A Intercity!

The Revenge of Leda

Worst Graphic Design

It is the great misfortune of the Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) in Perth, that it can be manhandled into the shape of an S, that S is the first letter of its name, and that Perth is built on the Swan River. This fatal combination has meant that generations of lazy bastard businessmen have named every second enterprise Swan Something. This has triggered another layer of lazy bastard graphic designers into making the first letter of Swan into a Swan. The swan can be done well, and the Swan brewery has had a few good versions, but usually it means a reverse “Leda and The Swan”, where it is the swan that gets f*cked, not Leda.

Here’s one from Cimbali, that extraordinarily, not only goes for the S, but also attempts an R – then unaccountably chickens out with the L. Nice grab Cimbali.

From the suburb that brought you Koala Lumber, xxxxxx Street Embleton comes up trumps. And it is not the last garden monstrosity from this street. Have removed street name. I don’t want someone to steal them. Correspondent Les, if you lived in Perth 45 years ago, you would remember these items. Concrete aboriginals, are now sadly rare (It’s political correctness gone crazy!). There used to be larger versions, and if anyone has seen one, PLEASE give me the location.

Worst Disguised Stink Pipe

Perth residents will all know this mighty erection on Lincoln Street Highgate, however not everyone knows that it is a sewer vent. It was built in 1941, and the design makes it clear that we were expecting a successful invasion from Mussolini later that year. This giant vent is a few moments away from Perth Glory’s home ground, and may be a contributing factor to why they stink at the moment.

The Feeling of The 5000

Weekend Update.

Phew, what a week. Worst of Perth hits surged past the 5000 mark in 10 days. Suggestions and submissions pouring in. Yet to come, Serbian Orthodox retirement homes, concrete aborigines, butchered churches, laughable information bays… – I can’t even remember half the stuff I have to get to. Chewing through upload quota and camera flash memory like a one armed arse kicker at a lesbian wedding. Once again the search engine terms amaze, here some from today. I love “brothels in perth?” with a question mark, like they are hoping that maybe, just maybe, there might be a knockshop in the city?
