Not only do these Morley virgins have to wear bowls on their heads, but they also have to hold up this home-made mailbox on Kiddie Way Morley. Gives me a headache as well.
Is this one good or bad? Nice use of a camshaft crankshaft, Blythe Avenue Yokine.

Twirlies
Worst of Perth could never be complete without the Red Castle Hotel in Belmont Rivervale. Add a mini castle to the top of an extremely ugly brick hotel and you end up with a brick hotel with a bit of castle on top. One of the advertised features is that it is only 3.7km from Belmont Forum Shopping Centre. Ideally placed to stroll back from the Casino and hang yourself in the shower cubicle after losing your shirt. There were hearses parked in the carpark (true). The website is pretty bad too. I actually have a lot of affection for the place. I used to love seeing it when driving past when we were kids. It was something you looked out for, like the lights on the Swan Brewery. Although ugly, I hope it never gets demolished.
Worst Toilet/Interior Design/Tiles/
This is the gents at The Swan Inn on Stirling Highway Fremantle. That’s Jarrad. He is part of The Jeff Strong Band, and shouldn’t really be in The Worst of Perth, because they were pretty good. There’s a poster highlighting depression on the wall. Those tiles are not helping.

Here was I complaining about the design of some of the new numberplates, totally forgetting the worst of them all, the infamous “WA State of Excitement” classic. Bolt them on to a Datsun 120Y, and you couldn’t claim that Perth doesn’t do irony well. Oh, and if anyone sees a WA Home of The Americas Cup parked somewhere, tell me the street.
Worst Pub Design/Architecture
How could you make one of those god-awful Ettamogah pubs worse? Put it in Morley. However not even Morleynians, not known for their good taste (think Galleria and Ugg boots with miniskirts) would be seen dead in the place on Walter Road, sending it broke.
From the stats I see there are quite a few international visitors to The Worst of Perth. To explain, The Ettamogah Pub was a cartoon Australian pub which used to appear in a rather shabby magazine, The Australasian Post. The cartoon pub featured numerous “amusing” features, including an old truck stuck on the roof. Some braniac had the idea to turn the pub into reality and franchise them. It would be a bit like turning your local watering hole into a fake Moe’s Tavern with inflatable Homers and Barneys. Pity the investors but also the publicans who had to turn up to these deserted freakshows everyday. Unfortunately it is hard to disguise an ex-Ettamogah, apart from taking the truck off the roof, but here is the attempt. Shenannigans Bar and Grill. It is also nice how the building was so well blended into the salmon brick building next door. There is another of these monstrosities in Cunderdin East of Perth. I think it is also going broke, as not surprisingly no-one will go inside.

Obviously if you can’t afford it Tom, you must be in the grotty old apartments across the road rather than the ritzy new ones right? This is an interesting place. It has been there forever. When I was a kid, they used to put protective cages around the lions. I think people used to smash them or steal them. What you didn’t mention was that it is run by Labrador Nominees. Why not call it “Where’s my cat? Nominees”? Good thing it’s not a Korean restaurant eh? Thanks Tom. I’ve got a feeling you have more worst in you. Don’t be a stranger.
By the way, the Chinese doesn’t say Jumbo either, it says Rare Treasure Restaurant.
Has been some comment on the Woodlands house, featured as Housing Crisis, so I obtained a picture of the interior.
5 bedrooms. $850 000. The painting and the crocheted cushions will cost you another 7 grand. The no. 11 letterbox featured in Housing Crisis is next door’s apparently. This is actually number 13, unlucky for some.
Worst Sight. Bayswater.
