Padbury Masterpiece

Dave P takes us to a Padbury classic. Should the Manhattes Barkeep jump off the Nyack bandwagon, can I suggest a Padbury base? What’s not to like here? The half arsed surfboard theme, offhandedly realised. Palms, sand and auto intruder light. A weeded block and relentless blue skies.

our 24/7 papaya industry

Dangling Man reporting: we have to share the just-in news about our hard-working papaya industry. I think it is from the same people who told us about our nuts. Perhaps the delicious and healthy papaya (perfect for salad) comes to us on the train. Was there pawpaw action in Last Tango in Paris?papaya

Nyack NY Part One

BSWAM sends a wide ranging appraisal of Nyack New York.

Today we visit the historic city of Nyack, settled in 1707, in Rockland County, “The Pearl of the Hudson”!  Split up into North Nyack (the aristocratic Gatsby-looking bits); South Nyack (lawyers and doctors and people who care a lot about lawns) and Mid-Nyack (crap antique shops, frat bars and two-star Italian restaurants plus the opera house, various little theater companies, half a dozen churches and the fire department) (shown above).

Nyack-1

Many were the mansions raised in Nyack in those early days, when the city was the richest in these, the United States of North America, and the city of Nyack’s merriment and love of fine living were known throughout the land from the very first.
Nyack-2

Many too, the proud buildings both public and private, heaped up in a way thought during those times to be insensible of certain brakes upon the display of wealth, even when you factor in cardboard doors.
Nyack-17

Indeed, verily, even from the 1700s, the buildings of Nyack were oft times the subject of criticism as to wanting conformity to certain received notions of architectural balance and proportion.
Nyack-4

Or, indeed, verily, again, compliance with the doctrines of Newtonian order.
Nyack-6

Fucks related thereof this criticism were given to the number of none, and the citizens of Nyack continued to build in a manner that pleased them best. Carson McCullers, Helen Hayes, Edward Hopper and Dorothy Parker all took up residence in that town and the quaffing of many a quart of bathtub gin occurred. After such quarts were imbibed, who was to say if the house opposite had one tower or twelve?
Nyack-7

Then came the 1970s upon the land.
Nyack-9

And the Angel of Urban Renewal didst say: “Fully One Quarter of the historic downtown shall be razed for a sunken shopping mall of supreme hideousness.”
Nyack-10

To be continued…

Inflamed

Looks like She-Ra might need to get out the nail polish remover. When you have a bronzed kangaroo willy, isn’t it gilding it a bit to paint it?

haiku expose

Forget TLA’s earlier witterings: the mainstream media has investigated the haiku competition. David ‘Swear Bear’ Bell had the scoop. TLA may have been commended – but I am the poet who has been published. The Voice also has a report on Matt Buckels, with a photo of him shamelessly kissing babies.haikuoutrage

early scoop

Teh West Online was Johnny-on-the-spot with the big legal news this morning. The verdict on the Lloyd Rayney appeal started at 1130: WAToady had it up at 1148 – but was comprehensively beaten by Teh Internets Worst, which had it nine hours before the verdict began! Walkley Awards all round. earlyscoop

Inside Job

I like that this is on the inside of the glass. By Pete F who also claims to have been served a drink in a jar in Rockingham. Was it at CHD’s?

Outrage Sunday 115 confessions

Two more pics from the heart of the Blackwood Valley. No teens, tweens, pre-adolescents, or pre-teens THANK you. nochildrenInside I found some titillating literature: a steal at $4! confessionsHow about those Dockers! Both TLA and the Rainmaker were predictably sclerotic last night. I got the sense they felt as though they’d been given a damn good rosecuting. rosecutedAt least the Rainmaker has his invisible gangster suit on which to fall back in these victorious purpled times: no-one will see him seething with rage.photoGood times. So good I splashed out $125 at City Farmers for this gorgeous object. It’s meant to go in the fish tank, but – what the hell! I’m going to dangle it from my rear-vision mirror. Is it a Be or Bf109?
