We have plenty of asbestos shingles, alas, in the US, but they look like, well, shingles. This is the first time I’ve seen a facade simply cut out of one huge piece.

Asbestos (ie asbestos mixed with cement) was a very popular building material right up until the 70s. Fences too.

It’s quite expensive to have asbestos removed. My 70 year old neighbour offered to do my bathroom for a very cheap price on the basis that the disease takes ’50 years to develop.’ I was tempted.
