A New Hope

I have to go back to WAtching for this, but I am going to have to post several a day to clear the backlog of good material I’m getting. Here is the desolation of hope in White Gum Valley. Now that’s somewhere to worship! No inside shots WAtching?

Do you feel as though all hope is lost?
Well there is a reason for that.

All the hope in the entire world has for some reason become trapped in this location.

    Marvellous.

I used to live in Hope St WGV.

I loved it: the suburb’s wide streets are reminiscent of Bunbury boulevards.

Naturally residents refer to it fondly as White Slum Valley and/or White Ant Valley.

謹賀新年, TLA, and all of youse !

A few months ago one of my adult students announced that she was going to study in Australia for 3 months, and upon her departure some of her classmates expressed their desire to visit her there during the New Year’s holiday, and for me to accompany them. And so it came to pass that yesterday we returned safely from Perth, which they loved.

We discovered that enigma has few fireworks, magnificent gum trees, great beaches, a splendid river, and some excellent restaurants. The population were tall, and drove impolitely. The emotion of Rottnest still exquisitely defied analysis. Although I can’t swear I heard banjos, the upper reaches of the Swan were slightly ominous.

I must admit that I employed my outdated local knowledge, and the kind advice of friends old and new, in order to sequester my charges from the very worst. Nevertheless, we left bemused that our attempts to spend like proverbial drunken sailors might have been more successful had the shops been more than occasionally open. I should, however, make exceptional mention of The Good Store, wherein Marshall and his cohorts display a commitment to making their name a laconic understatement.

We did enjoy seeing some shocking dumps, the occasional clothes dryer or mattress adorning a verge, and flagged bombs, but sadly, it was all merely bad, not worst, hence I have returned with nought to contribute here.

Last night I enjoyed a cursory glance at the latest batch of excellent contributions, and am now vaguely up to TWOP speed. Notwithstanding that I may have missed plenty due to the insufferable 15 comment list limit, I’m truly saddened to have learnt that Bento has been nobbled. And although I missed the link, it would seem Our Henk is even more deranged than we had previously thought, probably shouldn’t be poked with a stick, and that there may be life in the ol’ confraternity yet. On a related note, an inconsequential commenter has sulked off following a resounding meh from a handful of passersby to his latest hissy fit.

Rolly’s now the knight with his finger up his nose, but otherwise all seems well in the land of TWOP. Thanks again, TLA, for bothering to keep us all amused, and all the very best to you and yours for the new decade. Onya.

just today the good burghers of Belmont raised a modest stone obelisk by the river to celebrate 25 years of links sister city Adachi.

it has pictures of gum leaves on one side, and cherry blossom on the other.

So *that’s* where you were! I had noted your absence, Snuff. It would’ve been great to put a face to TWOP’s most astounding Google Image search history…

Well, today was excruciating. I’ve never done so much work in my life. Mrs Bento responded to an email link I sent, to lament that I was reduced to reading the West on my lunchbreak. I’m hoping this sad state of affairs will be shortly resolved with the purchase of an iPhone, or lunchtime visits to a wifi cafe. In the meantime, Mrs Bento may be called upon to email screenshots.

That said, WAtching must surely have a downpayment on an ivory dildo by now – this is but one of a number of sterling Worsts.

I used to live around the corner from this church. It used to be a Jehovah’s Witnesses hive and they’d regularly spring forth to distribute their fine literature, stopping first at the nearby houses, ie. mine.

IIRC it deactivated over a decade ago, which explains the derelictitude.

I actually met the bloke who owns this. It is heritage listed so he is not allowed to change the “streetscape” if he renovates which has led to all sorts of plans being rejected. I think his latest strategy is leave it fallow for so long that Council demands he renovates so he can re-present his original plans.

would youse stop pickin’ on us WGVillians
we loike our streetside mattreses and rusted out Kombis down in these here ‘a parts hyuk hyuk

According to my superstitious and ingenuously religious rellos, that is already the case.
Being quite certain of my position in society (from where I can look up to almost everybody), the predations of the many and diverse religious cults can have little influence on me.
