Should young worsters want to know how it’s done, Pete F provides the template. Almost perfect. The stupidity, the desolation, the shit construction, the relentless blue skies. Wow. Just wow. Henderson.

Actually a re-assing on Oxford Street would make a killing after Mardi Gras. Henderson is more likely to need a mobile skimpy silicone top-up van.

I’ve always admired the way that planners, architects and builders manage to avoid any hint of decent aesthetics in their creations.
It takes some kind of warped genius to be able to create something so visually offensive and yet, at the same time, gaze in awe at their own hideous spawnings.

Peter F, as TLA has said, “a template for how it’s done”,and those smal but oh so important touches…the custom hung drapes, shabby chic paint on the bollards, the creative use of language, not to mention its most bucolic setting.
It doesn’t get any better unless they could perhaps invest in some rotting pigeon carcasses?

DOCOMOMO, here i come/Right back where i started from!

Did you know that a noted archaeologist has provided proof the Thomas Peel fleet landed its passengers at Woodman Point, where they promptly began to die of starvation thirst and eye disease because they were a few weeks too late for their scheduled land allotments (which, characteristically, were given to others by then-premier James Stirling)?

Early case of the opposite of queue jumping.

They waited on their prime waterfront property, maybe wanting to keep the boat in view, apparently oblivious to nearby ponds where they might have shot a bird for sustenance. Many of them died and are buried there. A few walked back and forth to Fremantle to see what was going on with their land.

Peel himself holed up in a horse box carried to shore for his personal use (the only thing resembling a building and evocative of the present day shacks there) but when someone shot his hand he went back on board ship fearing infection and even more effective forms of revolt. But he stuck it out, got a lot of land in an inferior location, and died many years later in Mandurah.

Eventually the survivors of his company all got releases from their contracts and scattered to farms (owned by others) inland.

You can imagine what word of this did to the coifs of quite a few (well at least 2 that i know of) western suburbs matriarchs whose families tell it all differently.
