Contacio

By Nataliafan#1. Hard to tall if Contacio is still there. Google maps doesn’t show it at 156 West Coast Highway, but there are sites listing Scarborough nightlife with it as “popular with the young people.” Hard to believe that people flocked to hear this cobblers back in the day, but apparently they parked their Mercedes out the front and tapped their toes all night or til 10pm, whichever came first. Wouldn’t mind a tshirt of EL Bimbo. Which means the bimbo for all you uneducated pigs. But the main question is, has there ever been anyone, one single person, ever, who hasn’t referred to the place as Cunt-acio? If you know anyone who hasn’t, call now. 1800-cuntacio.

Gods, I went here back in the day. For a sedate mother’s day lunch in the 1990s (or late ’80s).
I can’t recall why, but the old Channel 9 news reader, Anne Conti(?), springs to mind. Did her family supply their wines?

I am so glad you made these images clickable. Now I can relive the horrors of old Perth.

I can tell you what model and year range those Mercs are: the one on the left is a W114 mid-size saloon, built from 1968 to 1976 (these were the immediate predecessor of the very successful W123 series) and probably a 1974-76 example, going by the L-prefixed NSW plate, whereas the convertible on the right is an R107 SL roadster, which came out in 1971, which in this case (possibly the LP dates from the late 70s or early 80s at a pinch) would likely be either a 280, 350 or 450 SL (these shared drivetrains with the full-size W116 saloon range of a similar era).

As for the LP, I would venture a guess that it hails from no earlier than late 1977, which is when Perth adopted the seven-digit telephone number system, plus Korinna font was very much a popular choice of the late 70s (Fleetwood Mac used it in their second eponymous album from ’75, which preceded Rumours; it seemed to have a renaissance from that point, though it dates from 1904).

At least you can park your Mercs there without some jerk vandalising them.

I don’t like this Worst: it makes me feel uncomfortable as I have never been sure how to pronounce Contacio, still don’t, and feel like a formidable rube.

    HAPPY LISTENING

OT – and sorry if there is a CHOGM bashing thread elsewhere – since when did Frasers become the “State Reception Centre”?

Or is there more to this “Core Security Area” than I can glean from Teh West?

*COUGH….. I’m quiet possibly related to one of the musicians on that vinyl cover….. actually I’m like 100% sure I’m related to Wolfgang Schubert, he is my grandfather! Those Mercedes Benz automobiles are his trophies. Pimping!!! Schubert and Peter’s put out some of the maddest beats in town, or so our opa believes. But his musical style never rubbed off onto me and my cuz, maybe thats why we listen to the ‘Prodigy’ and ‘Rage Against the Machine’.
