I bet the residents pronounced it PENNA-STIN or something. Which reminds me, if you don’t want me to say FUCKET then don’t spell it that way. And Gs written as Ks? Really, Thailand? What genius translator thought that one up? http://www.boredpanda.com/pronounce-wrong-city-name-travel-thrillophilia/

Forgot about that one. I say it the “proper” way and, strangely, it doesn’t even look like COCK-BURN to me. I wonder if it’s a common enough surname around the [Western] world for visitors to get it correct…. or do they snigger?

A friend of mine with a Scottish dad reckons Glendalough should be pronounced GLENDA-LOCK. He probably has a point.

Half of that list I had no idea I was getting it wrong. Iraq = EE-ROCK. It ain’t gonna happen, sorry.

I saw that list a coupla days ago on an Aussie news site but I couldn’t remember which one. When Googling for it just then I found about 50 almost identical articles [eg. the one I linked above] so it was straight out lazy plagiarism.

One that my year 10 English teacher mentioned, that is missing from all the lists: Paris has a silent S.
