It did used to be an older drunken derro home not sure now. All those William Street frontages have been restored. All the way to Brisbane Street.

i’m not sure about the newcastle one, but the last time i looked the signage indicated it was still a hostel. in the last few months i have spent a reasonable amount of time on william street and am fairly certain, judging by the activity, that it is still a hostel.
and yes, the font is lovely.

I spent countless hours with coffee and good books in the marvelous then extant Lebanese Sylvana Pastries opposite, vegan. If Bukowskiesque deros are still shuffling up the alleyway to the footpath, shaking their heads, muttering to themselves, flicking their rolly butts, and shuffling back inside, that’s a good sign.

TLA – you are right, the Perth Mosque association bought the land several years ago and are building something keeping in character with the Mosque next door. I’m not sure if it is extra prayer space (which is badly needed – you should be there on Fridays) but I doubt it as there is no connection from inside the Mosque. Might have to get Johnny 5 to help me drill a hole.
