This is exactly how we used to get to own our bikes when we were kids only 20 or so years after the Great Depression. Our primary school was walking distance to the tip and that tip had more gear than any Bunnings warehouse does today. Not all bad because even closer to school was a real old fashioned wood fired bakery which sold warm freshly buttered horseshoe rolls for nix to us kids and for 7 yrs, every day we had that aroma in the air and our lunches from there. Real Bread. Most don’t know what it tastes like just as most don’t know what Real Coke tastes like too, You really have no idea of what your missing. Just saying.

Luxury. You were lucky you had a tip. We nailed wheels from old pram onto billy goat and rode him to school. Our dad used to steam stamps of our letters and reuse them with gum of marri tree til postman died. We never got any more letters but by gum we were happy and we never complained.

Curiously, still less likely to damage your bike than taking it across by ferry.
