Stockade

True Religion. Is this an insult to jeans or religion? And in possibly related news, the hideous Teh Stockade on the corner of Wellington and Barrack seems to have finally, mercifully closed. I always wanted to do a post on Akubras, arguably the world’s shittiest hat – for hot weather. Why are Australians wearing fur hats in an environment with 10 moths of hot weather? Fur fucking hats! I once bought an RM Williams shirt. All the buttons fell off. “Born in boots, I was always a fucking moron…” #NF1 would do it better. So goodbye The Stockade. Bring on a bubble tea outlet.

That end of Barrack St is always helpful if you are running short of nipple clamps or double handed broad swords.

I don’t know what crawled up the posters arse but i still have the same Akubra Kiandra i bought 6 years ago and i have never had any problems with the clothing i bought from there. So either the poster is a complete fuckwit cumstain or a fat cunt for the buttons to fall of his/its shirt

This douchbag has no idea of the effect this store closing has had on the people who strived to make it a success and the extreme support from its loyal customers. The owner saved the building from being demolished and actually published a piece about its amazing history. I used to work here for a while and the family who ran it were the nicest people you could meet just trying to make ends meet.

  7. “extreme support from its loyal customers” But not extreme enough to buy enough fur hats for Perth Summer conditions right? They sound more “tepidly loyal. I don’t understand Perth city hipsters’ reluctance to wear fur hats in 40 degree weather. It’s their fault really. ” And if you write a Gina Rheinhart quality poem about working in the city but playing in the sticks on the front of your store…

I agree with the CONs of the OP… This was a great store! I’ve bought some great western shirts from there! Bought Levis 501s at a reasonable price (unlike fucking Myer where they’re about 50% dearer) and was one of the few places where you could buy dubbin (to water proof my doc martins when riding me bike in winter)…
I fucking hate all the gimmicky trendy crap… probably get replaced with a convenience store… INCONVENIENT YES!

Oh my gosh! I used to work here, too (many travellers worked here). And never would I have thought this would go… I thought it was the coolest store – so quintessentially Australian – since we don’t have anything like this back home. So many folks from the outback would trek to this store to stock up, and with so many stories! If they set up a shop like this where I’m from, I can guarantee it would make sales. A shame Aussies don’t embrace their inner-Paul Hogan anymore…

Oh – and having worked in the hat section – felt hats naturally have thermostatic properties and have 100% UV coverage from the harsh Aussie sun, which is what the Akubra hats were originally purposed for. Yes, you sweat a bit in them during the summer, but I choose full coverage over no protection in 50 degree weather, as do many in the bush.
