Chairway to Heaven, Rage of the Whitegoods

B saw a Duchamp “Chairs descending a gate” in Mt Lawley, and PJW saw a more Warholian piece in (I think the same suburb) on Vincent Street. That is taking the Council’s verge collection goodwill a little bit too much for granted. Speaking of Warhol, Sylvia S. says that surely there must have been a better Warhol quote than “The world fascinates me.” for the exhibition promo. It is a little limpwristed for sure.

First two are as exquisite as the third is lame. What is wrong with me that I get more excited by photos of junk than by the prospect of a Warhol exhibition?

With the exception of Damien Hirst and every other contemporary British artist of the last 20 years, Warhol was the greatest con ever played on the commercial art market.

Clearly he never made it to Perth.

The real worst is that clunky purple metal kite on a pole thing outside the AG. It features a forgettable shite inspirational quote, just for added suckiness.

The fridges and washing machines are simply coming out to meet their leader, the king of the whitegoods, the 1994 Toyota Camry.

    Is your fridge running?

Then you’d better stop it from meeting up with other, like minded fridges and forming a militia group to over throw the government.

Is that the source of that old cliche “he could sell fridges to that bloke on Vincent Street that’s got all those fridges”? Now I know.
