Palmyra Pan

Something really inspired me about this shot from South of The River Russell.

Russell says,

this figure has been sitting in this guy’s yard, just up the street from me, for years, along with the unfinished boat – is it good enough for the Mundaring Sculpture Park?

I had in mind some quite sarcastic comments for this, but no. Somehow this is what’s good about Perth as well as what’s bad. Here you don’t just dream of building a boat or fashioning a sculpture of Pan, you have a crack. What the f*ck – Have a go at both at the same time. I’d like to think that I had the triumph of will to wander out the back of TWOP headquarters with a tinny of Swan premium, start laying a keel and at the same time chisel out a pagan deity. Big respect. Although I am putting this in worst art, I am also putting it in not worst. Bad boat, bad Pan. I kinda like you both. This IS what Perth is about. Thanks Russell.

I live up the street from Pan and his pal, too. The boat has been a work in progress for over seven years. I think Pan is completed, or the guy has just given up (the sculptor, Pan obviously has).
I don’t know whether to be proud or ashamed.

I might be wrong but I think the launch is one of those concrete numbers that seemed a good idea in 1981.. but then mostly cracked or sunk… I live around the corner too, so will do a drive-by tomorrow to check it out… quite like Pan – carved from one tree stump

I don’t think that’s Pan. I think that’s Satan. And he appears to be doing his taxes. Either that or making a sandwich.

Actually Pan/Satan has that look about him that you get when you buy a sandwich (from budget burger) and go through it to decipher the ingrediants

I think the unfinished boat is just what the sculpture park in Mundaring needs.

I’m pretty sure that Pan is by “artist” Vittorio (he’s been mentioned in TWOP before). I think it used to be outside of his gallery on Petra Street before the gallery closed and Vittorio retreated into the night.

He’s definitely responsible for the Mural on the Canning Bridge IGA.

Vittorio is talented. The Sagittarian allows me to feel my heart beat. I love that sculpture. Beautiful stories associated with Vittorio’s art. I am wondering am I the only one who saw what Vittorio did with the tree in the Palmyra Car Park…awesome.
