Triple J

If you are already sick of the saturation coverage of The Worst of Perth in the press, and on the airwaves, DON’T listen to Triple J Dools and Linda this afternoon. I’m almost sick of hearing and reading about myself- er, myself. The interview is at 4:40pm Eastern time, and delayed for WA at the same time.

About The Lazy Aussie

Commended Haiku writer. A lover of The West's Worst. Perth stand-up comedian, photographer and writer.

Congratulations again! You’re quite the celebrity of late. Will we have to start talking to ‘your people’ now when we want to post comments? haha

  2. Frank Calabrese says:

Yep, Triple J is delayed, which is stupid as 720 can run Tony Delroy and Overnights during theweek live with the announcers giving timecalls for each part of the Country, heck even Newsradio is live. It makes a mockery of Triple J’s “Talkback” and competitions when you can’t ring in live to particpate.

In fact 92.9 is also a good case in point i n this area.

In fact that can be another good worst of.. Time Delaying stuff into WA.

  3. In more news from the big city that ” Bottom ” is , we have another triumph for Lannie McT : after the Big Day Out Lannie switched off her train set at the usual time for a Sunday leaving people stranded at train stations. The classic was the Perth train station where 30 unemployed layabouts aka Transperth security guards shood people from the station.

I heard and recorded most of the chaos on the old scanner – eventually they had to put on an extra train to Midland and Armadale to cope. Plus stupid Big Day Out security were sending yoof to Loch Street Station which doesn’t take trains on the weekends because the 4 car sets can’t fit on the platforms.

  5. Rolly says:

Semi’s with stock crates would have been more appropriate in dealing with the kind of sheep-like behaviour that inflicts people when they go to shows like this.
I would have thought that organising your transport home and remembering to carry your intellect with you when leaving the house would have been reasonable priorities.

  6. Frank Calabrese says:

Yeah, especially when the Transperth site SPECIFICALLY said there would be no extra services provided.

  7. The poor old yooves may have been overseas and observed their transport systems and leapt to conclusions. i.e that they live in a civilised place. Damn them for their misbegotten conclusions.

I took a ride on Alannah’s new tootle train yesterday – took my son on a joy ride, because he was fascinated by the notion of a station underground, and enjoys the train racing the cars on the freeway.

I must say I was quite impressed, except that the train does not go anywhere that I might care to travel, and so we had to just go to the end of the line and come straight back.

I thought the whole point of Mandurah was to keep all the geriatrics, whinging Poms, and shoeless bogans over the horizon and out of earshot. The last thing we need is a means for them to come into the city. Many of them seemed as gobsmacked by the underground station as my four-year-old, but none seem to have yet quite mastered the art of getting on and off an escalator.

    Hey LA
of all the really disturbing things I have seen on this site – I reckon the Online Now button is the most disturbing. I was quite happy sitting in my darkened room looking at your freaky pictures of Perth – but knowing others are looking at them at the same time makes me feel kind of exposed! I have to stop myself from checking the map to see where all these perverts live – have you really had a visit from someone in Omsk?

  10. I think Omsk might be a robot. However Hicksville USA has come up several times.

  11. Frank Calabrese says:

ok, Who can remember when Perth hosted the Miss Universe OPagent in 1979, which the stage collapsed ?

Well, for your viewing pleasure, here are a selection of videos of that event.

    Enjoy :-)

  12. Good times Frank, Good Times.

  13. Frank Calabrese says:

    Indeed :-)

Bit of Trivia, the Person who was allocated the task of applying Miss Scottland’s makeup was none other than the State Member for Nedlands :-)

And here is another Perth cultural Icon – Miss West

As posted by the artist himself :-)

  14. Mez says:

hmmm.. DJ Tools – good handle

  15. Mez says:

and that is truly the WORST youtube I have ever seen Frank

  16. Frank Calabrese says:

And to think that Kamahl posted the thing himself :-) But yeah, Miss West Coast was a Summer institution in the late 60’s to the mid-70’s with local gals strutting their stuff at the local beaches hoping to achieve fame and fortune.

I think the most well known winner was Karen Pini.

And to think that the finals were held at Beatty Park Aquatic Centre, which after the 1962 Commonwealth Games was used as a Concert venue, with both Deep Purple and Susie Quarto performing there.

Here is Karen Pini’s memories of her win.

  17. Frank Calabrese says:

Speaking of ABC Personalities, click on their pics to reveal their teenaged looks.

The Liam Bartlett one is a pisser.

  18. At the risk of going off topic here (?) , but related to 70’s music scene in Perth vale Jackie Orszaczky (3/2/2008) a member of the influential 70’s band , the Bakery.

  19. Rolly says:

    Bill O’S #7
Comparing o/s transport systems can be a
    double edged sword.
A visit to Italy, Spain or the UK can really make one feel that Perth really is miles ahead in infrastructure development, especially when it comes to getting any intelligent information from the staff.
France or Germany on the other hand can really show us a thing or two.

  20. My Ning says:

Maybe it’s me, but what do the above comments have to do with the JJJ interview?

Personally, I thought the hosts showered the Lazy Aussie with contempt. Who wants to sit around listening to two hack jocks trying to outdo each other with banal jokes and dumb comments when they have a ridgie didge comedian on the show as a guest?

Furthermore, why was he out in there with all of those other crackpot whingers? Do they have websites worth talking about?

An opportunity lost by JJJ…Auntie should bring back those Chaser guys.

  21. Thanks my ning. I always prefer hearing myself rather than others too, heh heh. The ABC 720 interview was better, but I’ll have to interview myself in the future for some real insight.

  22. Knight Rider says:

How old are you Lazy Aussie? Just wondering….

  23. Can you tell from this pic? Year of the rabbit.

Wow, I was pleased with 10 000 hits at the time of this post. I’m much more jaded now.

  24. Big Texan says:

Your 15 minutes are nearly over.

But the site is hillarious. I find something new to laugh at every time I visit.

  25. Hughie says:

Re the BDO – anyone with half a clue who’s trying to get back to Perth station DOES NOT go to either the Showgrounds or Claremont stations. Instead they allow for another 10-15 mins of walking to Swanbourne, risk and decline being invited in for a “couple more” (drinks, cones, lines?) by a bare-chested local whose housemates are also bare-chested (men of course – different story if it’s ladies), and join the other 20 people with half a clue who are willing to sacrifice the time of a little sauntering and the certainty of having a seat to sit in for the risk of gaining nought from waiting for god knows how long… Similarly if you’re heading to Freo – head back up the line towards Perth, and get on at KK. The walk ain’t that far.

And to be fair, Transperth did say there’d be extra services, but only on the Freo line.

  26. arthurvandelay says:

A belated congratulations, LA. You almost manage to make me miss the place!

  27. Triple J guys weren’t really that interested.

  28. Rolly says:

    @28 LA,
They’re not very interesting either. Possibly something to do with having their brains scrambled from spending too much time listening to loud noises masquerading as music.
