Nottamogah

Worst Pub Design/Architecture

How could you make one of those god-awful Ettamogah pubs worse? Put it in Morley. However not even Morleynians, not known for their good taste (think Galleria and Ugg boots with miniskirts) would be seen dead in the place on Walter Road, sending it broke.

From the stats I see there are quite a few international visitors to The Worst of Perth. To explain, The Ettamogah Pub was a cartoon Australian pub which used to appear in a rather shabby magazine, The Australasian Post. The cartoon pub featured numerous “amusing” features, including an old truck stuck on the roof. Some braniac had the idea to turn the pub into reality and franchise them. It would be a bit like turning your local watering hole into a fake Moe’s Tavern with inflatable Homers and Barneys. Pity the investors but also the publicans who had to turn up to these deserted freakshows everyday. Unfortunately it is hard to disguise an ex-Ettamogah, apart from taking the truck off the roof, but here is the attempt. Shenannigans Bar and Grill. It is also nice how the building was so well blended into the salmon brick building next door. There is another of these monstrosities in Cunderdin East of Perth. I think it is also going broke, as not surprisingly no-one will go inside.

    That is truly awful.
Reminds me of those ghastly toilet air fresheners. They never really disguise the original smell and you end up with the unpleasant aroma of perfumed shit.

Just around the corner Chef Amy. Maybe I will. Actually it is a little better looking than the dismal “Alehouse” next door. Now the truck’s off the roof, I may give it a go. If it’s nice, I’ll say so.

Personally I think thats a load of crap. I’ve worked at Shenanigans almost a year now and business has been great. I first came to Shenanigans late February to dine not to look for work. The food was great, the staff were friendly so I thought it would be a good place to start out. Why criticize a great restaurant because if it’s previous owners? Fiona and Mars have done a superb job in lifting this place off the ground and with the team we have, it’ll only get better.

That’s fantastic mate. As I say I’ll come down. Please note, it is the Ettamogah design and concept that was the feature of TWOP ire.

Just to prove there is no such thing as bad publicity, I went down to Shennanigans tonight and I must admit it was quite charming. Loved the casual atmosphere, had a wine and a meal (Tandoori Chicken Tenders w/ aoili dipping sauce & salad) food was delicious, freshly prepared and good value for money.

Wait staff were all in 50’s? 60’s? costume, dont know if that is a Thursday night special or a regular thing

Ettamogah (native word for a great drink) so I’m guessing that Nottamogah means, not a good drink.
Say them both fast & backwards the former sounds like how ya going mate latter sounds like not mates! 😂

Cunderdin Ettamogah pub is really cool, with lots of historical Australiana to look at.

The whole place has a very nice atmosphere, giving you the typical laid-back Australian lifestyle feel.
Food is great, staff are friendly…
So wax your little curly moustache a little more, put that in your trendy vape and take another sip of you orange mocha frappacino, and maybe stick to your trendy little wine bars, instead of insulting old pubs.
