The Stronghold at El-Kabong

Worst Architecture. Guest Post from Master Splinter

For years I’ve lived in hope that the majestic stallions from El Caballo Blanco would come galloping into the old Midland Brick display centre (cnr Scarborough Beach Rd & London St North Perth). It’s begging for it. Would be a shame to see this go, I mean it should remain as a memorial to mighty Midland Brick and what it’s done for Perth, it’s really shaped our city!

Is there really another option to building with brick in Perth? Obviously not…..Ed, maybe you have some ideas for this site. Ok, the cocos palms have to go, but I could see a string of woodfired pizza ovens in those arches (drive-in style!).

Putting aside your well known stallion fantasies for a moment, can I say Ai Ya! Well posted Splinter! To me it looks more like one of those giant sewer interchanges, or one of the Crusader castles after being sacked by Saladin. My suggestion for the site, is to let me live there -ed.

I think it should be turned into a Camelot themed Theatre Restaurant – that way it could span several worst ofs. Worst theatre, worst restaurant, worst theatre restaurant, worst actors, worst writing for a comedy…
while I’m on the subject – what ever happened to Max Kaye?

    The new Dirty Dick’s?
I saw Max Kaye not 2 days ago. (Not 2 days, 3). He is fortunately not trying to entertain anybody. I think he’s running for mayor. His crappy “theatre” has been demolished along with his breakaway kilt. Ughh.

I don’t think the Dirty Dick’s building is there. Was it on Cambridge Street?

Slowly reading back through old posts…
To build this structure, a wonderful old house that rambled over the whole block was demolished. The family moved out, the sale of their home funded a move to the hills (Kalamunda) and gave them no mortgage. MB paid big bickies for that parcel of land.

After it was built, we all (neighbourhood kids) used the patterned brick front areas to practice our skateboard and bike wheelie skills.

My mate owns this place. It’s for sale at $4.5millon. Buy it and do what ever you want to it.

Reblogged this on The Worst of Perth and commented:

This site has finally been sold. Will the stronghold at El Kabong finally fall? Or will it be the home of a super rich Perth influencer?
