Caryatids cast in concrete are likely to be less expensive than hardwood, and less costly in maintainance, as well.
The white roof and wide verandahs are indicative of a higher level of rationality than the normal urban design.
The garden merely reflects the “Fuck it, why should I care, I’m not going to live here” attitude of your average builder.
