You dont work in the motor industry do you JJ? many cases of illegal dumping into drains direct to the wetlands and the river. DEC are useless. And the artificial wetlands being installed by Swan River Trust are literally money down the drain

Face it man, no-one gives a fuck about wetlands because, I mean, a bunch of fucking birds. What are they gonna do, die? OOoo, maybe they’ll migrate somewhere else. BIG FUCKEN DEAL mate. orbea- If the price of engine oil was increased by a dollar a litre and waste oil given the same value , people would stop pouring it into drains and dumping it illegally. As I understand it, mechanics in Perth were once paid for waste oil by the 200l drum, but now get nothing and must pay a fee to have it collected. Surely such refund schemes are used overseas.
The few remnents of wetland that remain in Perth can hardly be called bird sanctuaries, and are destined to remain degraded by urban pollution , even without oil. Worth preserving, but sadly, many more will be filled in for housing yet. The oil problem will remain, only it will end up in our groundwater (drinking water) even easier, without wetlands to break down at least some of it.
