I wanted to see if The Mines Department building still had a ridiculous display of a mannequin dressed as an oldie timer miner in their lobby, but I was too early to get in. This is their garden on Plain Street though. This poor little fellow is forever condemned to stare towards one of Perth’s ugliest buildings, The Hyatt. Can’t someone turn him around? There must be some Minerals & Energy TWOP readers. Is the “dummy” miner still extant inside? Or perhaps I dreamed it?

…looks like you dreamed it…

Apparently I didn’t dream it. There was a mannequin with a glued on beard. Don’t know if still there though.

I remember that mannequin.
And I haven’t set foot in that building since 1997. I was 12. It must have been a scarring experience.

Somewhere in the world there’s an elderly woman wondering how that gnome found its way from her front garden to a government building in Perth, Australia.

I work in the building and I do vaguely remember the stuffed miner, though he’s long gone. I checked today and a gnome is now facing the other way….not that the view is that much better.

Damn, that miner would have been good to get. He’s really turned round? A view of the rock would be better than the Hyatt.
