Cocos in Focus

T_e Pub

If you can’t tell if a design feature is deliberate or a mistake – it’s a mistake. What’s with the missing but lit “H” at T_e Pub Dianella.? Perhaps it’s one of the initiatives of the new management.

It’s a design cliche that if you don’t know what to do, make it big and make it red. Conversely, if you don’t know how to make it into the Worst of Perth, stick some of those god-awful Cocos palms somewhere.

Dianella residents are particularly well served with ugliness. T_e Pub is next door to the Cityside Christian Church, which despite its lack of Cocos is one of the Worst of The Worst.

Wouldn’t it be great (read: nerdy) if they had spelt it “Teh Pub”. It would inadvertently become the top hangout of Internet nerds everywhere.

Teh pub would be fantastic. Now that would be a new management initiative.

Maybe I’ve misjudged them. Perhaps they are in the process of swapping the letters. I’ll go past next week.

Back to the Cocos focus- i definitely agree, i’ve always believed if you’re planting these hideously tacky mongrels and it’s not for a Kath and Kim photo shoot you might as well give up your landscaping job. They either look well-watered, green and terribly out of place in our climate, or they look neglected, dry and therefore even worse.

    Tackometer – 9.5/10

Can we petition to ban them?

Sounds like the category of Perth’s worst plant is required.

Even more impressive on the tacky scale, then the pub was first renovated in the late 90’s it was called “Le Pub”.

    Classy huh?

I can’t believe that it was my local. And I actually drank there.

Spotted a good Dianella worst yesterday afternoon.

Location: Dianella Plaza Carpark, between featureless white brick wall at back of Woolworths and the fenced off wasteland leading to the back of T_e Pub.

Police searching a red sedan and occupant for drugs. Numberplate: PLONKA 1

As of Dec 10, owners have repossessed the now locked and empty T_e Pub, so could be a vanished worst soon. It looks at least ten times worst now than in the photo here – will try to get a snap.

Actually, most likely won’t be a vanished worst anytime soon, given T_e Pub’s historical rate of attrition. In other words, it will squat like a vacant, festering sentinel, guarding the way to Mirrabooka and Noranda, for some time to come.

There were lights on in there the other evening. Something weird has happened to the bottleshop signage next door, too.

I’ll try to get a snap and we can work it out together?

And NF#1 – I’ve been keeping an eye on the Progressive SUPA IGA on my occasional progression past, and I’m disappointed at the lack of creative decoration on the sign…?
