Ben Bin Shafto

NF#1 found a Ben Cousins bin in Shafto Lane. It’s no Mainy bin, but… What’s the deal with Shafto Lane anyway. Who was this Shafto anyway? Who was shaftoed there? Yagan? The cabin boy of The Parmelia. Ben Cousins?Ben-Cousins-1Ben-Cousins-2

You recall Shafto’s? The small pub/nightclub there in the 80’s?

The boring answer is that Thomas Alfred Shafto (b. Hartlepool 1864, d. London 1930) was a City of Perth councillor, failed mayoral candidate, and owner of the Shaftsbury Hotel and Shaftsbury Theatre (later renamed the Luxor).
The interesting answer is… oh wait, there isn’t one.
