I see that Colin Winston Barnett has opened his big fat gob to suggest that the boat people blew themselves up in an attempt to upstage the ‘children overboard’ incident.
We shall have to wait for the official report later today to see if he is right, but the glee with which he rushed to a press conference to announce it (and he doesn’t give many these days now that he forces his ministers to front up to announce budget cuts) suggests that he is grubby little opportunist bigot like Little Johnny.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees says asylum applications in Australia increased by 19 per cent last year, from 3980 to 4750. How many came by boat? 179.
This year the number of boat people is already higher, at 221. But it still is tiny compared with those coming by air. Refugees worldwide have increased by 12%, and Australia still accepts fewer per capita than its allies.
so this all smacks of the Tories being all out of ideas on how to attack the government.
I am waiting for someone to coin a good epithet for this incident. May I propose “Afghans Aflame”?
