Weekend Update.
Phew, what a week. Worst of Perth hits surged past the 5000 mark in 10 days. Suggestions and submissions pouring in. Yet to come, Serbian Orthodox retirement homes, concrete aborigines, butchered churches, laughable information bays… – I can’t even remember half the stuff I have to get to. Chewing through upload quota and camera flash memory like a one armed arse kicker at a lesbian wedding. Once again the search engine terms amaze, here some from today. I love “brothels in perth?” with a question mark, like they are hoping that maybe, just maybe, there might be a knockshop in the city?

I will have to check in and see how bad it has become.
Balinese dot paintings…I bet they are cheaper! Many years ago when I lived in Alice I would often go and paint with a group of aborigines that painted dot stuff for local galleries. I was well taned then so went un-noticed and kept my head down when the gallery owner popped in. It amuses me to think that some of my contributions are hanging around the place.

Les, it’s an interesting topic. A non indigenous artist could not (openly) paint with dots now. They would be howled down, but the dot style has spread to other indigenous artists even though that technique of painting only came from a very specific area.
I have some contenders for Perth’s worst painters, to be posted when I get to them, but they are whiteys.

Warhol, Koons, even Renaissance painters paid others to do their work. It is a very interesting area. Saw a doco recently about the Perth Graff artist who paints the Wandjina symbol everywhere, he is non-aboriginal and yes there is an uproar.

By the way you can also buy “ethnic african” art in bali also. I think the practice is economic rather than artistic, although if they sold Jeff Koons rip-offs that would be the very definition of postmodern.

L.A, So close to the 10,000 mark. It only seems like 12 days ago we were at 5000. Can you tell us anything about who is actually reading this blog. It seems to have rung a chord with a lot of people.

A lot of search results, (apart from brothels). Because there’s reasonable traffic and wordpress blogs are well indexed by google, someone looking to buy say letterboxes in perth sees the link on the first page, and many cannot resist hearing the worst in something.
