Noted this rather charming sculpture in Howard Street almost 9 years ago. (A reminder literally below.) Mark G returns in the last days of the blog with this…tribute? Warning? Attempt at modesty? In any case, we’ve all ended up naked on Howard Street after such bags – although it seems too full to have needed squeezing.
I wonder if anyone can find the words of Australia’s Nobel Prize winner for literature, Patrick White in 1968 when he spoke of ‘Nation Building and Clay Pots’? If you think the Chinese have had recent history removed, re the ‘Square Party’, then so have we, re Mr White. I don’t particularly like that statue anyway and nor might the comedian who put the flagon bag there I’d suspect.

More interesting is that it could not be made now. The dumbing down of Perth’s already brain dead public art scene, would mean that idiots like FORM would ensure that this was a mural about a dude getting a new quiff.

FORM uses aboriginal art as a means of consolidating legal rights to remote area resources through legitimising rights-granting family groups by ‘ culture ‘ .
It was never really about urban art in perth . Small wonder what it ‘ sponsors ‘ here is so trivial and god-awful .
