Ratings

More than one reader has written in about the Paul Cut n Paste Nurry, Simon Kahunas Beaumont situation at 6PR. There has been a deep throat style command to “Follow the ratings”. I believe that the suggestion is that 6PRs claim that it’s all about the ratings doesn’t hold water if you compare the ratings Nurry had at the station last time he had the chance to showcase that fabulous voice of a flu infected housewife, and that Kahunas ratings shit all over Nurry even at his peak. So throats, are you saying that Kahunas Beaumont was too nice for PR? The only thing these sources didn’t give was the reason we should give a shit about these two tools.

Stranger still is the continuing success of knobhead Cameron. Listeners obviously love his ‘read from a list’ interview technique.

Ratings Schmatings. It’s all about demographics.

Beaumont just couldn’t deliver the old timers to link the show into the lucrative lunch timeslot of never ending topics based around ‘remember when Charlie Court ran this town, when women folk stayed at home and the blacks knew their place…”.

A little bit of research goes a long way. As New York (and Berlin) is Perth’s sister city , this link is relevant.

The most worrying thing is that talk radio listeners’ favourite music is country. Figures I spoze. They also seem mostly to ignore their female listeners.

I don’t listen to 6PR and never will

I do however buy the West on Saturday for the job ads and the TV listings, and occasionally accidentally see Nurry’s column.

the fact that he is disappearing from the newspaper where I might accidentally ingest his opinion, to a radio ghetto where only 8% of old folks, cab drivers and racists (and old racist cab drivers) will be aware of his existence, is to be applauded.

I do however hope that Fairfax give him a column on WAToday.

since we saw off Chong and Sattler, I have had no bete noire to bait and my life has been kinda empty

I know that contradicts my first statement about never wanting to see him again, but it’s a love-hate thing and I’m conflicted

I also hope that they put up a few billboards with Nurry’s face on them so that I can deface them. I’m thinking cock and balls on the chin (what chin? you say)

Call me a cunt but I actually didn’t mind listening to Kahunas every now and again. His opinionated speeches always suited everyone’s agenda, and if they didn’t – he would make them.

Now that Nurry is going to be in the chair, you’ll never catch me listening to PR. (not that it was that easy to catch me in the past anyway, I was very secretive about it).

PR is like a moped. Cool until your friends catch you riding it.

Sattler did bring back Yorkie to 6PR in 1989 in the afternoons – unfortunatly the Races ruined his shift – despite Yorkie trying hard with a sweepstakes type competition.

      Only lasted 6 months.

WAttsie was until a few years ago the Breakfast presentert on Racing Radio – he has since been replaced by Tim Gossage.

Wattsie’s 50 yr old colection of Jokees weren’t even good enough for the gamblers.

Oh and Gary Shannon has declined the co-host job with Tony Mac – wants to deal with “Personal issues”, and is considering a comeback in 2012.

And in breaking news His female co-host Mel Preston has also been given a DCM :-)

And in a supreme piece of irony Brad McNally – the Program Director at 96FM started as a 19 yr old announcer at 6PR during it’s short-lived, but VERY successful Gentle on Your Mind format.

What’s the preferred term for persons who geek on about radio? ‘Old cunts’ strikes me as a little unspecific.
