Weekend Worstoff 6

Four international worsts for Weekend Worstoff 6. Firstly a shot I took in Beijing. Don’t laugh, the Folk Music Club is in even worse shape.

Mazarina sent in a nice worst from her trip to the Himalayas. I came for the Gaylord, I stayed for the kwality.

And here’s my favourite shop in New Zealand. I really wanted that very embarrassed looking tiger, but I believe there might have been customs problems at Perth Airport. There’s also a wallaby holding a tray on the right.

And Glenn sent in this shot of the Perth Pyramid. It seems to be designed to fool people into thinking they are about to enter The Louvre. Come to think of it, the Louvre version is pretty bad too.

And finally, from the search results this week.

finish brothels – heath ledger kitten – wax arse – disabled sex – big norks – busty cats – uncircumcised surprise – perth sluts.

Finish brothel. No finish and it’s just a massage I think. Or is it Finnish?

Have a good weekend worsters.

FYI the pyramid was designed BEFORE the louvre additions. And its great. Oldham Boas Ednie-Brown architects. 1981. And its great.

The French one is much better – ours looks sort of threatening, a bit like a stealth bomber, or a giant stingray, theirs is light and crisp.

Is our pyramid sitting on walls of grey concrete? Grey concrete, in any shape or form, will never make a good building.

There’s nothin’ great about this poky little bunker or star chamber,(as far as I could tell from last visit)its full of no name plants – no extraordinarily unusual fern or moss, and no remarkable flora to speak of! A botanical dissapointment! Bury it under some more concrete or put something lively & exotic in there! Tropical Fruits, a couple of cassowary and a few feral pigs!!

  5. A few feral pigs? And maybe whack up a replica louvre. I wouldn’t put that past Carps.

Yep – there’s little boardwalks and platforms in there amongst the shrubbery – you could pay $5 for an elephant gun and pop of a few rounds, that’ll get the kiddies in!! Few wild ducks, some trout!

Is the Gaylord related to the Golden Gaytime? Naturally, when I was a kiddie hanging out at the Brentwood shops beating up abandoned shopping trolleys, we used to buy a GG from the deli and think it was hilarious.

    Here’s another Gaylord vendor: http://www.dirtybutton.com/pictures/2198-gaylord-ice-cream/

    Did you go trekking Maz?

I LOVED golden gaytime icecreams as a kid (gotta be careful how I say these things!) Yeah, I think this is the Nepalese cousin, though I wasn’t brave enough to try after having survived a most dire case of ‘the runs’. Love that other pic too!

Foolishly went trekking. and just for future refernece, when a travle brochure says ‘moderate’, don’t believe the lying scoundrels! Sure it’s moderate if you’re a marine, but for the average pudgy cubicle-bound office drone who’s not risen above sea level, it is QUITE the challenge. I thought I’d ‘prepared’ by going to the gym and climbing Jacob’s Ladder. Haha. Still, even after all that, it was an awesome experience.

There’s a Gaylord restaurant in Chinatown in Melbourne. It’s just around the corner from Kum Den.

Re: Carps making an imitation Louvre,

That’s a great idea. Re-make all of the artworks “Be Kind Rewind” style.

Does anyone know the actual purpose of the Great Pyramid of Perth? Is it a terrarium? Is it for meditating in? Is there a reason why a big glass building is so close to a sports oval?

    Hmmm… Mystery.

haha, so true poor lisa! Always with the swan shapes, and yet an eerie absence of actual swans…

    @10 Mazarina

Is that because we are so im-moderately unfit in general?
Certainly “average build” is redolent of Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
We are beginning to exceed the Yanks in corporeal excess.
    Type 2 diabetes rules. OK.

On average, Aussies have become pretty unfit in recent years. But I’m not overweight and I go to the gym 3-4 times a week so I don’t consider myself to be in the worst category. Even so, I wasn’t as fit as I should be for the challenge of the trek. moderate is certainly a relative term!

That taxidermy place reminds me of a shop that I passed by in Islington some years ago called Get Stuffed.

The fuckers had a grizzly bear and a lion in there.

Gosh I was just reminiscing about funky clubs in Beijing….and feeling all nostalgic…hmmm where was this picture taken?

  20. This would be reasonably near the (I assume) Chaoyang venues of your nostalgia. Third Ring Road, not so far from the embassy district.
