…with wine across old W.A.
Ah, 1973. Some will remember back to those simpler times, when wine drinking was the preserve of the homosexual, Gough was in his heaven, and all was Al Grassby with the world. Love the logo, but the stencil font was perhaps an attempt to cast wine drinking in a more manly light. The same sort of font you might stencil a wool bale with. (or brand a homosexual with for that matter.) This red is so dry, only half the bottle remains.
ahhh the old WA logo – haven’t seen that in a while. Brings a tear of nostalgia to the eye – and not in a good way!

A wine glass with a cord to hang it around your neck would be required too.

738ml? What sort of anal-retentive was running this winery?

In 1973, this was the bottle you took to a more upmarket soiree – the kind of affair at which one might expect fondue or perhaps some exotic Chinese fare such as sweet and sour pork or lemon chicken. For all other gatherings, it was Swanny for the blokes and either Skip And Go Naked or Chateau Tanunda for the sheilas…

At that point of the evening when the first overly refreshed casualty began to heave audibly behind someone’s parked car, the lyrics to the Chateau Tanunda jingle would inevitably be modified to “No wonder, no wonder, somebody chundered…”

I wonder if they still make cold duck.

If I remember correctly ( a big if) there were two types of wine bar ; the aforementioned happy ones and the other type where derros/plonkos went to die.

I’m pretty sure Cold Duck went the way of Summer Wine and Stone’s Green Ginger Wine. We shall not see their like again. I hope.

Stones is still available I think. Bon Scott’s favourite drink apparently. On that topic, is the Bon Scott statue up yet? I’m betting it will have a place here.

Indeed, Stone’s is still readily available. I saw it in the Subi Liquorland just the other day, in both regular and magnum size to boot!

Not only does Stone’s still exist – I’ve just finished a bottle of it.*
It goes well as a kinda liqueur with chocolate these days. In my not totaly mispent yoof it was a cheap way to get hammered.
*Not right now – hell its only 1 pm – I mean in the last week or so.

To get back to Bon, LA – I wonder whether there’ll be a similar debate to that which took place over the Elvis postage stamp, ie whether to use Sun Records Elvis or Vegas Elvis; I envisage spirited discussion over whether it should be Bon the residual Sharpie circa ‘High Voltage’, or the disturbing pre-poodle rock coiffure of the ‘Highway To Hell’ end days…

Yecch…I think if Robert Hughes ever wanted to save his breath (not bloody likely) in explaining to a non-Australian his concept of ‘The Convict Stain’, he could do worse than simply roll that tape…

Who cares? I just envisage something completely crap. Maybe by the author of the famous Fremantle Curtin bronze: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/89/Curtin_statue%2C_Fremantle.JPG
Just do it again, chuck a mullet on it, and hey presto, Bon Scott!

Think Burswood sculpture Park, giant kangaroos St Georges Tce. Giant Honky nuts, also covered by TWOP. They are building a giant digital clock near belltower.
