Worst Architecture?
Was a time when the crab infested burg of Mandurah would have been classified as “country”. However Perth and it’s high tech freeway has swallowed (although only partially digested) crustacean town. Here is a picture of a burnt miniature village. It is hard to tell if this perversity, which hordes of holiday makers have averted their gaze from, is more or less sinister after having been torched. Police are looking for a leprechaun who was seen arson around the place.
Hansel and Gretel’s house in the foreground.
What an amazing image LA – Looks like Srebrenica.
Very Grimm.

I don’t know about this one. I like the Worsts that have been immaculately maintained, deliberate awfulness being better (or worse) than random acts of awfulness. I think this would have been far better (or worse) if it was pristine and people paid to go there.
I told the director of Form gallery about your blog this evening. She is running the whole Creative Capital thing and was happy to hear that a debate about Perth was going on.
By the way why don’t you just print out the tranfers and sell them, then people can buy their own t shirt and iron them on. Cheaper to post and far less work for you.

Is the burnt not worse in this case C? Have linked the original website to the word perversity above. Strangely it doesn’t seem to have the same buildings as my shot, and the breaking news doesn’t say “Now Burnt!” Can there be 2 miniature villages in Manji?
Please let’s talk creative capital. As the Let’s see a Bluey post shows, The Worst of Perth is not just about slagging off.
I am dissatisfied with the current quality of iron ons. Would like to do some real ones.

Two miniature villages! Now the real mystery emerges. Who had the most to gain by this village being torched?

Was this mystery ever solved ? Is this the remains of Abingdon Miniature Village, or another one?

Oops. Should have read here first.

The second village is very, very English – empire building perhaps?

Are you suggesting a they might be planning a full scale attack G1 and become a large miniature?
LikeLike
I think, given the evidence that the attack has been and gone and that one of two things happened.
a) The miniature residents turned upon each other killing, looting and ransacking (there is probably a miniature mass grave somewhere in the vicinity) and then moved on, while the very English part of the village just ignored what was happening and hoped it would go away.
or
b) The English invaded – offering the locals beads and trinkets for their land then killed, looted and ransacked ( there is probably a miniature mass grave in the vicinity) and then built a new village in it’s place – a new, better miniature village that looks exactly like home.

I know no one has commented on this in years but I need to clear something up for my own state of mind. This was a fun park. The small villages were little attractions. There were also castles and an Australia shaped pool. The place was long long ago abandoned apparently due to safety issues. A fire swept through there. I’m trying to find out more but nobody seems to care

Are you sure this is the same place?
The website is 2007, they are looking for a new tearooms manager and nowhere does it mention fire fighting capabilities. I still think the untorched one is scarier but it might just be the addition of thatch which is missing from your pic.
I have been looking carefully for evidence of miniature Clontarf Boys without success – are you sure it was them Meccano?

Well it doesn’t look like the same place, but surely, SURELY there can’t be two miniature villages in Mandurah?

Cimbali,
Cut and past HTML below and compare with the chapel in the pic it is pretty close bar the extended spire. Sure, the last time I saw Clontarf was 1992 but it looks pretty similar to me.

This needs a general case study into how Crabtown got turned into shit. The usual suspects : Alanah McTiernan, Brian Burke , various sleazy developers.

Well I for one think it’s quit dignified for Mandurah to host this memorial to the Bosnian wars. Quite moving really.
Have they also got Dinky-Toy diggers going to it with the toy corpses?

There are (or were) 2 miniature villages in Mandurah. Abingdon Miniature Village is alive and well, off Pinjarra Rd. These pictures are of the now derelict Castle Fun Park.

2 miniature villages? Mandurah (or surely anywhere) isn’t big enough for 2. It’s lucky that one burnt down. I drove past its burntness a few weeks ago.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of growing up in Mandurah. The above was sadly very much part of my childhood, it is the late great “Castle Fun Park” not the linked Abingdon miniature village (which is more aimed at 60 and over ex-pats).
