Mein Gott! I am still deeply disturbed by JJ’s Spengler sticks spectacular yesterday. Let’s throttle down and return to the suburban fleshpots, where cafes heave with Positivists and neo-Kantians. Safer ground for us all.

Instead of one malapropism in The Echo this weekend, there were two.

How dumb are the Twilight film people for failing to tie in locally with the TWOP tipple of choice? No wonder Simon Miraudo described it as “generic melodrama, in which not a single moment rings true”.

TWOP’s New York correspondent The Bartenders Skills with a Manhattan may well bleat about 1700s taverns being painted purple in the Hudson River Valley, but this is Perth baby. Thornlie and Embleton. Seriously, is this all there is? How do such things get built? And while lockable shutters including on the breadbin might be necessary in Thornlie, I just can’t imaging the circumstances where someone would sign off on the Embleton house recently finished. “Now we are facing due West into the roasting Perth afternon sun, so make sure we have no eaves or anything shading the windows. Insanity. Surely it could qualify for Perth’s ugliest affordable house?

Alexander The Great’s Mansion

Pictures are not really enough to show this extraordinary mega mansion on Gaden Rd Wundowie. Gigantic. Jaw droppingly huge, jaw droppingly bad, complete with massive statue of Alexander The Great, a ferris wheel, football pitch, glass pyramid, water slides, kilometres of columns and statues and even a church. Despite the enormous amount of money that must have been spent, it still looks delightfully half arsed, and the arid bushland setting makes me want to label it magnificent, even though it is one of the most hideous homes you are ever likely to see. Love it. I would give a lot to see the inside. These Macedonians really put Italian bad taste to the sword. Not far from this place, which in real life looks like it’s made of cardboard.

OK I’m back. This one from Pete F seems appropriate during the political turmoil. First, this hideous mausoleum of a house would be a worst anywhere, secondly it’s in Rockingham, and third, it has an anarchist symbol scratched into the concrete outside. No-one comes out of this looking good.

The Claremont of future past

Historians of the year 2525 may be puzzled by WAtching’s Claremont pic. “Hasn’t Claremont always been like this?” they may ask. Is this an example of Perth’s famous brick cladding aka brick wallpaper? The orange trim is nice too. Lack of Cocos shows that it’s a suburb of class.
The current era where Claremont is the home to the well heeled arsehole and most of Perth’s dickhead population may only be fleeting, even if they are about to get their first small bar “Corksoakers” very shortly. Sideshow alley is in the background. Outrage, any chance of a few tickets to the opening of Corksoakers? You’ll be covering it I assume?
