Guest: The Stig. Guest Area: Bridgetown.
Feeling that our public art efforts are going well in the city, with The Worst of Perth putting the Lord Mayor and ex Minister at odds over the removal of a public sculpture, we can afford to look at public art further afield. Here’s a shot from The Stig of a sculpture in Bridgetown in the southwest. Personally I appreciate the effort on this one, but I don’t like the result. What do you think?

No, I get it. Something to do with the petroleum industry and water-buffalo.
No way CK, it’s obviously something about Bugs Bunny and carrots
Kinda with you there, appreciate the effort but its the idea. Bit silly!-greg hoey
Think they may have been trying to imitate brian mackays sculpture at east perth ‘the impossible triangle’. Which is far better effort !
Its good when they give these commissions to real artists [like Mckay], but all too often they just want to take the cheap and tacky alternative. -greg hoey
It looks like a Butt Plug
Don’t mind this one at all. it reminds me of the pipes from Mundaring disappearing in the direction of Kalgoorlie and has that same “lets go and sit on it” appeal as those water pipes. And lets face it, its not every piece of public art that inspires that feeling!
sit on it like a but plug you mean?
Hmm.. I need a sense of scale with this. i mean if it was like two worms thumb wrestling then not so impressive. But if it’s as big as say ‘Angel of the North’, that rusty iron thingy just south of the Scottish border then it would have a certain something. Or two.
Robotnik. It’s shown actual size.
thats actually quite a tricky join at the top – looks as if it has been forged rather than welded. They should sack the boiler maker who did the other welds though -bronze welds on a mild steel pipe. When the rest of it rusts Bridgetown will be left with nine perfect round bronze rings… and sand
You should have been a consultant Mez.
