But, oh, did we get lucky with the kebab. The first proposal for it was for it to be about 100 metres (no, that is not a typo, 100 metres) tall near where the Entertainment Centre now is – and if there’s one thing in Perth uglier than the Entertainment Centre . . .

I haven’t been inside the Entertainment Centre since the 1980s but does anyone else remember sitting in the hard plastic side seats that faced the centre of the building, facing away from the stage? You could get a crick in your neck while hearing a horribly overpriced international act with a really bad sound mix.

Ahem, according to the Heritage Council of WA:

“Council House, Perth designed in the Post-War International style, demonstrating a high quality of Modernist architectural design and detailing, commensurate with its image as Perth’s Civic Administrative Centre; it is the first building incorporating window walling to be erected in Perth; and it is associated with the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, epitomising the forward-looking aspirations of the Perth community at the beginning of the 1960s.”

I don’t think the kebab is heritage listed.

From a Perth tourist brochure circa 2017:

“Come to Perth! See the Convention Centre, the Belltower, and the world-famous Boulevard of Kebabs!”

i quite like that council house- you don’t see stuff like that anymore (instead you get glass tetris pieces ala new perth stadium)

the rock kebab sticks are just waiting for that giant thing with gravel teeth to descend from the heavens.

There’s so much potential here with this idea! I think why stop at one kebab stick?And why stop at rocks? Perhaps we need a mixed grill of the buggers side by side, say an ex dead footy ledgends stick, and an ex pollie stick, perhaps a dead Perth Cup winners stick as well!! A boulevard of kebab sticks up and down the Terrace!!
